The artistic practice of Carmen Hurtado Pérez—a poet and visual artist—explores the intersection of word, image, and matter. Through experimentation with collage, assemblage, painting, printmaking, embroidery, and installation, she constructs a unique language in which images are transformed and acquire new meanings.

Her work approaches memory not as a static archive, but as something in constant flux, shaped by fragments and traces. Poetry holds an essential place in her work, giving form to compositions that are fragmentary, symbolic, and open to multiple interpretations.
Dreamlike imagery, along with references to mythology and literature, inspires projects that address themes such as identity, freedom, and feminism—revisiting traditional tales to bring visibility to new feminine narratives. In her recent projects, she reinterprets myth from a contemporary perspective, exploring how stories and images survive, transform, and take on new meanings over time.
Thread serves as a hallmark of her artistic vocabulary: it joins fragments together, incorporates writing, and transcends the surface to take on a sculptural dimension.
In both her visual work and her poetry, images become vestiges of lived or imagined realities—fragments that resist disappearance and open up new possibilities for interpretation.
In her most recent projects, poetic performances—staged within various spaces—translate the written or spoken word into the sonic realm, making it an integral part of the artistic experience.
Her work proposes an open territory where the materiality of the creative process, poetry, memory, and imagery intertwine, inviting the viewer to discover new interpretations and alternative ways of understanding the world.
